Kate Barbee Biography
Kate Barbee, is best known for her hyper-saturated, larger than life paintings that respond to the chilling male gaze. Barbee is currently working on her project, 'Voyeurism', a series of paintings that are based on the artist’s anxiety and paranoia generated by "drive-by machismo." In July 2017, Kate Barbee graduated with her BFA in Studio Art from the University of Texas at Austin and in August moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dreams of being a great female painter. In September 2017, Barbee opened a small wearable art business called CrustLA as a source for additional income. Barbee currently works part- time for L.A. photographer, Parker Day as an artist assistant and grant writer. Barbee has been featured in multiple art shows in Austin, TX and has won several academic excellence awards throughout her time at UT Austin. In January 2017, Barbee was nominated and awarded the Greg Ploetz award for painting excellence.
