Sureya Davis Biography
Sureya Davis was born in Staten Island New York and now resides in Southern California, where she is currently a senior at the Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD), striving to achieve her bachelor of Fine Art degree in the spring of 2018. During her years at LCAD, she has received multiple awards and scholarships, two of which include The Festival of the Arts Scholarship and The Plotkin Memorial Foundation, Excellence in Art award. Her subject matter ranges from a vast variety of areas, portraits, still life’s, and figures included and although the mediums that she uses in her works are consistent, her focus within that subject matter isn’t definite just yet, as she is still exploring her growth as an upcoming representational artist. In saying that, what she constantly finds herself attracted to is getting in touch with different cultures through her traveling and the exploration of the human condition. “The way the human mind works has always been of particular interest to me. I’ve always been drawn to the psychology of human emotion, always finding myself attracted to those who give me a little something of themselves, further allowing me to give something back. Whether that be sadness, joy, anger, jealousy, loss, uncertainty, fear, I welcome it all. What I hope to achieve in my work is just that. I don’t strive to mechanically produce pretty pictures for an uninterested audience to view. With the subject matter I choose and palette I decide to work with, I want my audience to feel something when they look at my paintings. It doesn't have to be happiness, just any emotion at all will suffice.”
