Xiao Faria da Cunha Biography
Xiao Faria da Cunha is a watercolor artist based in the Kansas City, Missouri area. Her works include illustrations, paintings and manga strips. Born in China, she takes advantage of her profound cultural heritage. Her artworks often relate to Asian legends and mythology, delicately reflecting her perspectives and sensations. She combines traditional eastern and contemporary western painting techniques and creates unique textures in her works. Her paintings consist of layers of subtle colors and hidden symbols and will only unfold in front of an audience who are willing to embark on a sentimental and visual journey with the artist. Faria da Cunha’s work has participated in multiple juried shows in the KC Metro Area, including the well-known Hilliard Art Gallery in the downtown area, the Paper Birch Landing gallery in the heart of North Kansas City, and the KCKCC Art Gallery. Currently, two of her paintings are on display in an online exhibition hosted by the Bauhaus Prairie Gallery. As an emerging artist, Faria da Cunha’s style is in development. Nonetheless, her works highly distinguishable with the abundant emotions and profound cultural references merged into the colors. Currently, Faria da Cunha is working on a serial painting titled “Daymare.” Faria da Cunha holds a BA in English Creative Writing from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (2018), with a minor in studio-art. Her narrative painting style stemmed largely from her experience in Creative Writing.
