Nathan Altier Biography
Junior year of high school, I won first place and received an honorable mention in an art contest put on by the Southern Maryland Women’s League, for two separate pieces, a lithograph print collage and a painting. I was incredibly encouraged and realized at this moment that I wanted to make a living using my talent and doing what I loved. I was accepted at the Maryland College of Art & Design and honed my skills there as an artist, making the Dean’s List every semester until I graduated. After receiving an AA in Visual Communications, I decided to continue my education at the Atlanta College of Art and graduated with a BA in Computer Art. Shortly after graduation I realized that a career in computer art was not my passion, I transitioned to fine art painting. While I enjoy painting a variety of subjects, and experiment with abstractions and realism, I prefer portraiture. People fascinate me and I love the challenge of bringing out their personalities through my work. I have recently shown; Seven pieces at Volt Restaurant in Frederick, Md. from June 2018 through the end of August 2018, Participated in Martinsburg, WV’s Festival of Banners. My banner was on public display on N. Queen St. from June 2018 through the end of August 2018. Placed “Best in Show” in the Berkeley Arts 2018 Eastern West Virginia Juried Exhibit with “Topsail Family Portrait. Another of my pieces’ “Extraction” was also accepted in the Exhibit. Currently, “The Flower Girl” is currently on display in the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley for ShenArts 40th Anniversary Exhibit through Jan. 13, 2019. Currently, “Flow” is featured in a print exhibition entitled “Balance” for Apero Gallery, Los Angeles, CA. I am accepting and working on commissions in addition to building my own portfolio for shows and exhibitions.
Dedicated to true expression through the arts.
