Artist: Laurie Yehia 'Introspection' Fine Art Catalogue Curator Open Call
Laurie Yehia Biography:
Laurie Katz Yehia is a Los Angeles based artist who studied drawing, painting and ceramics at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago before focusing on printmaking with Nathan Oliviera as an art major at Stanford University. Yehia earned her B.A. with Honors in Art from Wesleyan University and has studied painting with Tom Wudl in the Los Angeles Arts District since 2007. Her diverse experiences as artist, lawyer, leadership consultant, public education advocate and mother inform her art. Yehia's work has been exhibited in solo and group shows in numerous galleries and other venues, selected for awards on ARTslant.com, and published in APÉRO Catalogue 'Surrounding' (June 2017) and International Contemporary Artists Vol VIII (Lemonidou and Antoniadou, curators, 2014). She has co-curated exhibitions at ArtShare LA, the studio eleven gallery in Maker City LA, the Colburn School in Los Angeles, and the Ebell of Los Angeles. Yehia currently serves on the Santa Monica Arts Commission and Public Arts Committee. This work is inspired by attention to inner space and its connection to exterior dimensions. Painting with space and objects as well as mixed media, I look to reconfigure and reflect what I sense in open- ended ways that engage both intuition and cognition.
