Claire Alexandre

Claire Alexandre

Claire Alexandre is a French-American intersectional artist. She seeks to build bridges across environmental, gender, and justice movements in order to deepen the global understanding of community development and its close ties with our changing climate. Through mixed-media paintings and street art, she builds empowering images that connect natural spaces with bodies of color for the purpose of broadening the stakeholders who are attributed agency in current global environmental discourses. As a biracial and bilingual woman whose identity travels between borders, her work always aims to investigate and question national constructs. Thanks to her academic background in environmental science she uses her research skills to uncover botanical knowledge of all the places she visits and features them at the center of her work. Her art aims to fight against the notion that environmentalism can only be executed through mastering hard science and she seeks to focus on storytelling and human connections to address climate change activism.
